    3         to require the Legislature to provide for the
    4         promotion of civic literacy in public education.

    6  Be It Proposed by the Constitution Revision Commission of
    7  Florida:
    8  
    9         A new section is added to Article IX of the State
   10  Constitution to read:
   11                             ARTICLE IX                            
   12                              EDUCATION                            
   13         Civic literacy.—As education is essential to the
   14  preservation of the rights and liberties of the people, the
   15  legislature shall provide by law for the promotion of civic
   16  literacy in order to ensure that students enrolled in public
   17  education understand and are prepared to exercise their rights
   18  and responsibilities as citizens of a constitutional democracy.
