    4         A proposal to create a new section in Article X of the
    5         State Constitution to prohibit a state or local
    6         legislative body from naming public facilities, land,
    7         or programs after a sitting member of such body;
    8         providing that a naming law or ordinance may not
    9         contain provisions on any other subject.

   11  Be It Proposed by the Constitution Revision Commission of
   12  Florida:
   13  
   14         A new section is added to Article X of the State
   15  Constitution to read:
   16                              ARTICLE X                            
   17                            MISCELLANEOUS                          
   18         Naming of governmental programs and government-owned
   19  buildings and other facilities.—
   20         (a) The state, a local government, or any other political
   21  subdivision of the state may not name a building, a facility, a
   22  tract of land owned by the governmental entity, or a program
   23  administered by the governmental entity, after an elected state
   24  or local official if such official is a sitting member of the
   25  legislative body voting on the name of the project.
   26         (b) A law or an ordinance which names a building, a
   27  facility, a tract of land, or a program after a former elected
   28  state or local official may not contain provisions on any other
   29  subject.

   31  BE IT FURTHER PROPOSED that the following statement be placed on
   32  the ballot:

   34                      CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT                     
   35                       ARTICLE X, NEW SECTION                      
   36         RESTRICTIONS ON NAMING OF GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS AND
   37  PROPERTY.—Prohibits governmental programs and government-owned
   38  facilities and land from being named for a sitting elected state
   39  or local official; prohibits a naming law or ordinance from
   40  containing any other subject.
