Biographical Information
Occupation: | Vice Chancellor of Keiser University |
City: | Parkland (Broward County) |
Commissioner Belinda Keiser has devoted her career to advancing Florida’s economic and workforce development, global competitiveness, education and healthcare. In addition to serving on various governmental boards, Commissioner Keiser is the vice chancellor of Keiser University (KU), currently serving for 30 years, and is an advocate for students’ accessibility to higher education and workforce talent development.
Under her leadership, KU has grown into Florida’s second largest, not-for-profit university, serving 20,000 students pursuing 100 doctoral through associate degrees in many of Florida’s targeted industries. Nearly 25 percent of the student body are active duty service members, Veterans, or military family members. With 19 Florida campuses and 3,800 team members, KU’s annual economic impact is $3 billion and results in 30,000 direct and indirect jobs. Regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at Level VI, KU in its 40th year, continues to serve Florida students, families, and employers seeking career-ready graduates.
Demonstrating to students that community service and leadership is a responsibility, KU annually supports charitable organizations such as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Wounded Warriors, Operation Homefront, the March of Dimes and many other individuals in need. In recent years, Keiser University’s scholarship program has awarded over $44 million dollars in needs-based and academic scholarships for deserving students.
Commissioner Keiser also established the Keiser Mills Foundation which provides unique scholarship and learning opportunities to students seeking international, entrepreneurial, leadership and civic engagement experiences as part of their college education in Florida and globally.
Commissioner Keiser has served as an Ex-Officio member of the Florida Council of 100, member of the Board of Florida’s Chamber of Commerce and on the Florida Government Efficiency Task Force. Previously, she served on the Workforce Florida Inc. (currently known as CareerSource Florida) Board of Directors from 2005 to 2010, including serving as its past chair.
Commissioner Keiser recently completed consecutive terms—eight years--as a reappointed member of the 17th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission of Broward County. Currently she serves as an appointee of Governor Rick Scott to the Board of Directors for both Enterprise Florida and Space Florida.
In 2016, Commissioner Keiser was entered into the Congressional Record in Recognition of Women’s History Month by Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and Speaker Paul Ryan for her work in the areas of education, public service and philanthropy. In celebration of her commitment to Florida’s diversity, she was selected as a 2015 FACE award recipient. The FACE Awards highlight individuals who embrace diversity in Southwest Florida, implementing change, promoting ethnic diversity and empowering others.
Commissioner Keiser received a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, a certificate in paralegal studies from Keiser University and a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University.
