Commissioner Chris Nocco is the Sheriff of Pasco County and has dedicated his career to public service, both in law enforcement and state government. He has served the people of Florida for more than a decade and previously served as a deputy with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Chief of Staff for then state Representative Marco Rubio when he became Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and Chief of Staff for the Florida Highway Patrol.
In 2011, Governor Rick Scott appointed Commissioner Nocco as Sheriff of Pasco County. He was subsequently elected Sheriff the following year and then re-elected in 2016. Under Sheriff Nocco’s leadership, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office has been recognized for innovative law enforcement strategies, community outreach and partnerships and support of its members and their families.
Commissioner Nocco earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and his master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Delaware while on a football scholarship. After college, he worked at the Philadelphia Public School Police Department and then went on to the Fairfax County, Virginia Police Department. While serving in Fairfax, he was one of the first responders to the attacks of 9/11, the Washington Sniper Incident and the Anthrax Attacks.
Commissioner Nocco holds an Undergraduate Certificate in Emergency Management from Florida State University and a Certificate in Business Excellence from Vanderbilt University. He is a Graduate of the FBI National Executive Institute and the Naval Postgraduate School’s Executive Leadership Program. Commissioner Nocco is also active in several community organizations, including: Pasco Sheriff’s Charities, Inc.; Boys and Girls Club of Lacoochee; Pasco Police Athletic League; New Port Richey Rotary; Police Benevolent Association; Fraternal Order of Police; Gold Shield Foundation; and Renew Pasco.
Born in Philadelphia, Commissioner Nocco originally moved to Florida to start a family with his beautiful wife Bridget, a native Floridian. They are the proud parents of three children.
