Commissioner Timmann has served in all three branches of state government. She began her career in public service as a judicial assistant and Martin County law librarian. She then worked as a legislative assistant in the Florida House of Representatives and in the Attorney General’s Office as Special Assistant to Florida's first two Solicitor Generals.
In 2006, Commissioner Timmann served on incoming Governor Charlie Crist’s Transition Team before joining the Governor’s Office as Executive Deputy Chief of Staff for military and veterans’ affairs, gubernatorial councils and commissions, and statewide consumer projects. She was also the Governor’s liaison to the 2008 Taxation and Budget Reform Commission.
In January 2011, Governor Rick Scott appointed Commissioner Timmann as his Director of Open Government managing public records and increasing access to electronic information, including the Florida Has a Right to Know project. She resigned from that role to return to Martin County and seek the elected office of Clerk & Comptroller. Commissioner Timmann was sworn into office in in 2013 as the Martin County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller. She began her second term in January 2017.
Commissioner Timmann attended the University of Georgia, Indian River State College and The Florida State University, earning B.A. and A.A. degrees, as well as Certificates in Public Administration and Records Management. She also completed Master’s courses in Editing and Publishing at FSU. In 2014, Commissioner Timmann completed the professional certification program for Court Clerks.
Commissioner Timmann has a long record of service and leadership in her community. She serves on the Board for Helping People Succeed and is a member of the Salvation Army's Women's Auxiliary, LEADERship Martin County Alumni, the Elliott Museum, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In 2014, Governor Scott appointed Commissioner Timmann to the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Information Systems Council. She was elected Council Chair in 2017. She also serves as Legislative Chair for the Court Clerks Operations Corporation, past Communications Chair for the Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers, and is a member of the Florida Government Finance Officers Association.
Commissioner Timmann’s recent awards include selection as "Clerk of the Year" for the Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers, 2016/17; Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers President’s Appreciation Award, 2017; and the Partnership Award from Florida Rural Legal Services and the Martin County Bar Association.
Commissioner Timmann is the proud mother of two adult children who were born in Stuart. Her late husband, Robert Timmann, was a local, state and international law enforcement officer and instructor. Their daughter, Shannon Timmann, is an attorney; son, Morgan Timmann, operates a small business.
