Commissioner Chris Sprowls is an attorney and in 2016 was re-elected to the Florida House of Representatives and selected to serve as the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2014 and his prior committee assignments include the Health & Human Services Committee, Heath Quality Subcommittee, Health Innovation Subcommittee, K-12 Subcommittee, Government Operations Appropriations Subcommittee and Affordable Healthcare Access Committee.

Commissioner Sprowls is a strong advocate for free-market economic policies that reward innovation and prevents government over-regulation. He has passed legislation to provide price transparency in health care, widely expanded school choice for children, deregulations for business, a bill for statewide ridesharing, a bill to ensure the constitutionality of the State’s death penalty statute and bills to protect condominium owners from predatory bulk buyers.

Commissioner Sprowls graduated from the University of South Florida in 2006 then continued on to Stetson University School of Law. During law school, he was elected to serve as national Chairman of the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association – the largest professional student organization in the world. In that role, he was the chief spokesman for the nearly 60,000 law student members of the ABA. As National Chairman of the ABA Law Student Division, Commissioner Sprowls created “Duty Bound”, a program that increased the number of pro-bono legal clinics serving veterans nationwide. He started the first “Veterans Treatment Court” in Pinellas County and served as Director of the Veterans Treatment Court for Pinellas and Pasco Counties for several years.

After graduating from law school, Commissioner Sprowls became an Assistant State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit, which serves Pasco and Pinellas counties. In his capacity as a prosecutor, he tried dozens of jury trials, many involving serious felonies such as murder, kidnapping and child molestation. He later served as a special prosecutor in the Gang Unit, and oversaw both of the State Attorney’s offices in Pasco County.  He is now in private practice in Tampa specializing in the area of civil litigation and real property law.

Commissioner Sprowls and his wife Shannon live in north Pinellas County with their two boys Prescott and Conrad, both sixth generation Floridians.
